Kanako Namura

Osaka, Japan

I am a process-based visual artist that makes paintings on paper using everyday materials. The methods I use are inventive and often inspired by textile-making traditions such as melting tinted ice cubes and pressing confetti on wet paper. Through my artistic practice, I explore an ideal state of mind by carefully managing elements of control and happenstance. Living in today’s information society, I find myself wanting to micromanage every waking moment and, at times, feel utterly paralyzed. Art making is a form of therapy, and my works are like maps that provide me with insight as to how I can engage with the world that surrounds me. I have lived and worked in the U.S. and, more recently, in Mexico. I am currently based in Osaka, Japan. //
