Gunga Guerra

Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

Gunga Guerra was born in Mozambique, passing through Portugal until he came to live in Brazil. Since childhood, his drawings created narratives and constructions of a fragmented and fanciful world, aligned by remote memories of his personal history and by acquired and lost identities.

His background as an immigrant led him to be more interested in subjects related to social and political issues, which are his source of research and inspiration. He uses photojournalism as a reference and also produce his photos and drawings to study compositions to work mainly in painting.

Through fantastic realism, the artist creates characters and scenarios that are representations of himself. His themes refer to the search for identity, memories and belonging to this uncomfortable place that, paradoxically, drives him to action and reprogramming of himself. //
