Laura Sharlene Turner

Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

This print depicts the uniforms worn by gays in concentration camps during World War 2. Many people do not know that the LGBT community was persecuted along with Jews, Catholics, the disabled, criminals, Gypsies, and other outcasts. Laura Sharlene Turner aims to educate about LGBT history through her printmaking. Laura makes LGBT political and pride art, touching on topics such as mental health, gun violence, homelessness, substance abuse, and child abuse. Laura hopes to educate the public about the struggles of the LGBT community in the United States. These are topics that need to be seen and heard so solutions can be found. Laura studied printmaking at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently part of the Triangle Queer Artist Collective in Raleigh, NC. //
